M. & S.
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Licensed Clinical Addiction Counselor with 15 years of experience. I have been working in mental health since 2003 after earning my Bachelor’s Degree from Purdue University in Consumer and Family Studies. I began my career working specifically with children and adolescents. I worked as a case manager providing wrap around services within the school system and in homes with families. Later I began working in an intensive day treatment program. Many of the youth I worked with struggled with severe behavioral issues, mood disorders, and substance abuse issues. In 2007 I received my Master's Degree in Social Work from Indiana University with a specialization in mental health and addictions. After earning my MSW I began to facilitate an Intensive Outpatient Program and aftercare services with a focus in addictions. I then began to work in crisis management and triage assessment for individuals with mental health and/or addictions issues in the VA system. I opened M. & S. Counseling Services in 2011 and continue to provide therapy for individuals.
With my various experiences I specialize in women's issues, trauma, adolescent issues, substance use disorders, and mood disorders. I believe that every person can make changes to create the life they want. It is easy for past trauma, relational issues, life transitions, substance use, and daily stresses to keep us from feeling balanced and healthy. Therapy is a safe place to learn new skills, gain insight, practice self-care, and to find purpose and meaning in everyday life. It is also a tool to empower change and to promote healing. I have been trained in many different modalities and/or programs which include EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), various CBT modalities, Prime for Life, and I am a Certified QPR Instructor. It is very important to me that my clients to feel supported, understood, and motivated by the therapy process. My philosophy for therapy is to help you recognize your strengths, improve your coping skills, and trust in your ability to overcome any challenges that you may face. I look forward to collaborating with you.

Life can present challenges and leave us with a sense of unworthiness. This can often that leave us feeling lost and discouraged. I operate through the unwavering belief that nobody deserves to be alone in their experiences - especially in struggle. Hope is constant and it exists in your story. I do not believe people are defined by their struggles and I look at the whole person inside.
I have tremendous respect for the courage required to understand yourself and navigate this process. I believe in the therapeutic process and recognize the courage and patience it requires to allow change to integrate past behaviors and into your emotions and the way in which you live your life.
I believe that my job as a therapist is to help you experience a safe, compassionate place to think, feel and move towards healthy, positive growth. My strength is in helping you understand and trust yourself in the context of your experiences, increase your ability to cope with stress and change, and take action to increase your quality of life.
I have worked with individuals and families for thirty years, first, as a certified and licensed addictions counselor, and later, as a licensed clinical social worker. I specialize in dual diagnosis, chronic relapse, PTSD, and chronic pain, and treat depression, anxiety, and relationship problems. Over the course of my practice, I have worked with people whose lives have been disrupted by substances, trauma, relationship problems, and mood/personality disorders.
Sometimes therapy needs to engage both mind and body, and I utilize relaxation and mindfulness, when applicable, to that end. I am trained in Metacognitive Therapy, Cognitive Processing Therapy, CBT, DBT, Integrative Couple Behavioral Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing.
